Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 bookSDE 2010, Towards Energy Efficient BuildingsThe Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) as leader of the European project 10ACTION, presents the book "SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE 2010, Towards Energy Efficient Buildings" and describes herein the results and innovations of the Energy Efficient Solar Houses that have participated in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010, Universities Competition that took place in June 2010 in Madrid. This book can be downloaded for free from 5 October 2011 at 11.00 a.m. at the following links: sdeurope and 10action. The book is mainly directed to professionals of the building sector and Architecture and Engineering Students. The book also gives interesting data for daily life, pointing out the European Directive from 2010 that indicates that on 31 December 2010 all new buildings shall be "Nearly Zero Energy Buildings" Data as: 26% of the energy produced in Europe is used by households, and that 47% of that energy is used for heating and 27% for Domestic Hot Water. "SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE, Towards Energy Efficient Buildings", written in English and wherein several specialized authors and relevant personalities as Ms. Beatriz Corredor, Secretary of State for Housing and Urban development, from the Spanish Ministry of Public Works, or Mr. William Gillet, Head of Unit for Renewable Energy from the "Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation", from the European Comission participate. The objective is to create to create awareness about the need of different, more sustainable, ways of building and energy use.
10ACTION 10ACTION is leaded by the UPM and co-financed by the Intelligent Energy Europe program. The consortium consists in UPM, Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany), Austrian Energy Agency (Austria), Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (Spain), Equipo de Marketing (Spain), Center for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (Greece) and Agência para a Energia (Portugal).
SOLAR DECATHLON EUROPE SDE is organized by Secretary of State for Housing and Urban development, from the Spanish Ministry of Public Works, with the collaboration of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and with the support of the Department of Energy from the USA, the collaboration of the Municipality of Madrid and Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía. Saint-Gobain is Principal Sponsor, Schneider Electric is Strategic Sponsor and Rockwool, Kömmerling and FCC are main Sponsors of Solar Decathlon Europe.
