Hermann Kaufmann WOOD WORKS

Hermann Kaufmann is a wood construction pioneer in Europe. The body of work he developed in 25 years includes commercial and farming construction projects, housing projects, community centers and schools, as well as hotels - and it is a striking reflection of the transition from classical wood construction techniques to the possibilities of new wood construction materials. The Ludesch Community Center, which was completed in 2006, received major international awards; it sets standards for the future in terms of construction biology and ecological concerns. The book offers a detailed view of Kaufmann's technical and spatial innovations and explains his use of materials as required by the respective projects. The architect's integrated approach to architecture is rooted in his biography and does not begin and end with "pretty architecture". Instead, he practices construction as part of the responsible handling of nature and the landscape.
