Mark IsittWhite GreenTen Projects in the Great Outdoors by White arkitekter White arkitekter AB, is Scandinavia’s leading architectural practice and among the ten largest in Europe. Founded in 1951 the employee-owned company is a leader in sustainability and environmental issues. The projects selected for the book reflect a radical shift in architectural method – pointing out how construction is affected and altered by stringent ecological demands and the natural context. The ten buildings are born in their settings rather than on the drawing board an they thus represent a drastic departure from the working method practiced by White during its 50 first years. The book documents White's approach to nature, analyses its implementation and considers how successful the results have been in practice. Filled with plans and photographs of the buildings and their natural surroundings, this is an essential title for those interested in sustainable architecture. The ten featured projects include six seperate naturums located across differnet parts of the Swedish countryside, the Kastrup Sea Bath in Denkmark, complete with a 100-metre bridge out to sea, and the South-end-on-Sea Pier in England, which is set to be the worlds longest pier at 2.158 metres.
