Virginia McLeodEncyclopedia of Detail in Contemporary Residential ArchitectureEncyclopedia of Detail in Contemporary Residential Architecture, by Virginia McLeod and published by Laurence King in August 2010 is a comprehensive sourcebook, containing newly commissioned scale drawings of every type of architectural detail taken from 100 of the best contemporary houses from around the world. The book is organized into two main sections. The Directory of Houses at the front of the book acts as both an introduction to each of the 100 houses featured and provides an overall picture of the creative and technical diversity in residential design. The houses have been grouped together by material type so that concrete houses, glass houses, masonry houses, steel houses and timber houses by different architects in diverse locations can be viewed together. The main Directory of Construction Details is divided into seven sections according to type: Walls, Floors, Windows, Doors, Roofs, Stairs and landscape details. The drawings are represented at conventional architectural scales, typically 1:2, 1:5, 1:10 and 1:20, and include keys indicating the construction materials used. The book will be an invaluable reference work for all architects showing the best examples of residential detailing from around the world.
