Concept![]() © Mori Building Co. Ltd. The building program included four functions: retail at the lower levels, office above for a majority of the building's area and a five star hotel above the office space. In addition, the building was to be "crowned" with a dramatic exhibition and museum space which would be accessible to visitors and building occupants. It was crucial that this building is thought of as a civic gesture to the citizens of Shanghai. As a final goal, the building was to be the world’s tallest, reaching 101-storys. ![]() © Mori Building Co. Ltd. The tower is divided into five primary zones-entrance lobby, museum, office, hotel, and observation functions. Refuge floors are located approximately every 12 floors and contain mechanical rooms and primary elements of the structural mega-frame (outrigger and belt trusses). The office floors are divided into 6 zones based on the elevator banks and refuge floor location, with between 9 and 11 floors per zone. The lower floor of each office zone provides a trading floor for high-end office users. ![]() © KPF - Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates In the podium, the first floor is primarily dedicated to car circulation, bus and taxi queue, central fire command station, and other building support functions. The second and third floors feature a retail environment containing mostly boutiques and restaurants. The first basement level features a sunken garden and food court accessed from street level. The second basement floor contains a multi-purpose hall and foyer as well as additional retail. The remaining facilities in the basement levels include mechanical support spaces, automated parking, building maintenance office, and truck docks. |
