Concept

Benoy developed a new retail layout and concept for a subtle interior design, so creating a shopping centre with the look and feel of a department store, whilst retaining the distinctive features for which the building is recognized. This has been achieved by designing spacious shopping premises in both wings which now house around 120 shops and boutiques.

The internal layout was a great challenge, retaining many original elements yet creating the type of space required of a contemporary centre. The interiors are designed with a modern twist using high-quality materials to create an atmosphere to impress. All the floors are connected through a void in the centre, forming a feature wall setting the scene for the shopping experience. In the older part of the building, the inner-courtyards have been covered with glass roofs and a new, glass-walled atrium, which now seamlessly links the elegant front of the new wing with the original building.
