Project Overview

Olympic Stadium, Beijing, China

The National Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 29th Olympiad, as well as athletic track and field events. At completion it had a capacity of 91 000 including 11 000 temporary seating.

The Stadium is located in the south of the centerpiece Olympic Green and is believed to be the world’s largest enclosed space with a gross volume of 3 million cubic metres.

The building’s vast scale and dramatic form created a new icon for China and the City of Beijing. The design is a perfect combination of elegance and simplicity – every part of the concept is functional.
