Green Star Award

This flagship project is the world's first convention centre to be awarded a 6 Star Green Star environmental rating, making it one of the greenest large structures in the world and leading the way in terms of best practice, innovation and sustainability. In achieving a 6 Star Green Star design rating the Melbourne Convention centre has set a new benchmark in the delivery of state of the art sustainable buildings and far exceeded the Government's briefing requirements for a 4 Star Green Star facility.

The project was awarded its 6 Star Green Star rating as a result of a number of design features. Radiant slab heating and cooling is one of these. Further, 90% of the ground floor area incorporates alternative/ non-conventional ventilation solutions including Displacement Ventilation, Chilled Beams, and Mixed Mode. 90% of the ground floor air-conditioning systems are either 100% outside air with no recirculation or with CO2 sensors. The building has been designed such that 30% of the ground floor area achieves a daylight factor of not less than 2.5% as measured at floor level under a uniform sky. It will also achieve a thermal comfort PMV level of -1 to +1 for 98% of the year.
