Project Overview
International Airport New Doha, Doha Qatar Qatar Airways is leading the race in redeveloping the region’s future aviation hub, the New Doha International Airport. Situated approximately four kilometres east of the existing airport, the new facility will be the world's first airport to be designed and built specifically for the Airbus double-decker A380 - the largest passenger aircraft ever built. Combining both architectural panache and technologically advanced systems, the 2,200-hectare airport site will reclaim half of its land from the Arabian Gulf. Forecasted for maximum development from 2015 onwards, the US$14.5 billion project will be implemented in phases. Work began in January 2005 on phase one which is scheduled to be completed by 2011 to handle an initial capacity of 24 million passengers a year, more than doubling to around 50 million by the time the airport is fully operational beyond 2015.
