Auditorium
The Elbphilharmonie is to house one of the best concert halls in the world. Classical music as well as jazz, world and pop music are given a platform that stands out from the rest upon which to perform.

The concert hall with approx. 2150 seats is the focus of the Elbphilhamonie. The hall does not follow the orthogonal concept of the "shoe box". Orchestra and conductor are situated in the middle of the room; the rows are woven together unevenly and weave their way upwards to create a steep audience "bowl". Light surfaces reflect the light. One of the main elements is the reflector on the pointed hall sealing. The reflector creates outstanding acoustics as well being an element in the lighting technique.

In contrast to the large hall, the small music hall adheres to the classic concept of the "shoe box". The flexible podium as well as the 550 seats makes this music hall ideal for chamber music and many other uses. A third hall is also available for practices.

Facade
The new building is a glittering body of glass. The surface changes shape in defined areas. The single layer glass façade creates three functions on the interior. At the hotel the ventilation wings become wavelike hatches. The apartment balconies appear as horse shoe shaped segments and allow for a view, wind protection and lateral ventilation of the neighbouring rooms.

The amber coloured foyer of the inward facing concert hall shimmers through the closed glass surfaces. The facade is covered with a sun screen of white dots. The density of the screen is computer controlled and set for the particular function of the rooms on the interior.
