Chinese national library, Beijing, China Rendering: KSP Engel und Zimmermann Architekten Frankfurt am Main
The concept emerged victorious out of a competition with the nine preselected contestants coming from China, Denmark, Germany, Great Britian, Japan and the USA. The task was to expand the consisting library to an additional second section with an area of 77.000 qm for approx. 12 million books.
An important guiding component of the expansion is the "digital library". Of extreme historic and cultural importance is the "Si Ku Quan Shu"-collection which also should be going to be situated in the new building. Building owner:
