agreement with the French Ministry of Culture and Communication: the Centre
Pompidou’s first decentralised cultural centre will be built in Metz.
March 2003: launch of the international architecture competition.
December 15, 2003: confirmation of the winning project management team by the
Metz Metropole Council: Shigeru Ban (Tokyo), Jean de Gastines (Paris) and Philip
Gumuchdjian (London).
June 2004: approval of the summarised preliminary design.
December 16, 2004: signature of a cooperation protocol between Metz Metropole
and the Centre Pompidou concerning Centre Pompidou-Metz. Nomination of Laurent
Le Bon as curator of the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
June 2005: approval of the final preliminary design.
September 2005: building permit obtained.
Autumn 2005: final design presentation with contractor specifications for the
launch of calls for tender.
2006-2009: start of work on the building and neighbouring areas.
2009: inauguration of the Centre Pompidou-Metz.
