Planning of the building's interior space began at the earliest stages of structural and architectural development, was integral to the design process and informed the building from within. The interior design was inspired by the dual influences of the building's technological accomplishments and the regional culture and heritage.

As the tallest living and working spaces in the world, the interiors of Burj Khalifa's highest floors take celestial influences similar to a stationary spacecraft. This is in contrast to the lower floors, which are inspired by natural elements of the land.
