The design of the new terminal building for the Malaga Airport responds to the final layout plan of the airport which incorporates a future runway north of the existing, leaving the terminal area between the 2 runways.

The final layout contemplates a u-shaped terminal building as an extension of the existing facilities with two new piers parallel to the existing and future runways. The departures roadway adapts to the form of the u-shaped terminal building while at a lower level, the arrivals roadway makes a shorter loop creating a centralised square between the two roadways at the arrivals level. This centralised square will be the hub of the future airport providing access to an underground commuter rail and bus stations.
