Boarding Area

Check-in / Boarding / Baggage

Check-in and security position
The expanded check-in area continues the existing area, to develop a single departures concourse. The new check-in area (19,700 m²) will provide two fronts of ticketing counters, 143m and 60 counters aligned with the existing counters of the Picasso Terminal building, and another 60m with 24 counters are developed in a perpendicular extension towards the future terminal area. The check-in counters are arranged in islands of four for pass through check-in.

A single security position flows into a centralised commercial square from which passengers can reach the boarding gates of the new and existing piers.

Boarding Pier
The new pier begins in the commercial area of the terminal building and continues its airside concourse for a length of 270 m. The pier provides the terminal with 12 contact gates and resolves traffic for arrivals and departures are at the same level. At the end of the pier two mezzanine levels are added (one above one below) to permit a flexible operation (schengen – no schengen) of the last 6 gates. The fixed part of the bridges of the pier is designed in order to accommodate double boarding gates for both contact and remote positions.

Baggage claim and arrivals lounge
The lower level of the new building serves to expand baggage claim and handling areas maintaining the concept of a single terminal. The baggage claim area expands the existing area with 11 carousels and accommodates tour operators and rent-a-car services. A unified arrivals lounge occupies the space below the departures roadway opening to the covered atrium space which serves as a transport interchange. From the atrium space, the passenger can get taxi service, descend to the bus terminal, or connect with the parking garage by means of pedestrian bridges.
