Concept
The concept of the project... The concept of the project is to create a continuous roof structure enveloping the departures check-in and kerbside areas as well as the centralised arrivals square. Taking advantage of the climatic conditions of Malaga, the square will serve as a covered outdoor arrivals hall for the terminal building. The roof structure will be the dominant feature for the design of the new terminal building. The current project for 20 million passengers per year (2017) will develop 50% of the final layout plan with two runways. The project includes the development of the new terminal building; a new pier parallel to the existing runway; centralised bus station; new parking structure; and a new roadway access and urbanisation. The project maintains the departures and arrival levels of the existing terminal in order to create a fluid connection and spatial continuity. The surface areas for the new construction:
