Drawing inspiration from Natal’s splendid sand dunes, Natal’s new stadium designed for the 2014 FIFA World Cup has become known as Estadio das Dunas (Stadium of the Dunes). The stadium's design focuses on creating a grand space for the people of Natal while becoming a counterpoise to the public promenades of the beaches.

Accommodating sporting, music and cultural events, Estadio das Dunas and its associated development will bring an urban focal point for Natal while encouraging future growth.
