Stadium

"It was a wonderful challenge to design a World Cup change for its inhabitants. stadium in Brazil, one of the greatest footballing nations in the world. Estadio das Dunas is designed to be a perfect South American Football stadium: intense, atmospheric and above all else great fun." Christopher Lee Populous senior

Beyond the 2014 World Cup, the stadium will serve as a destination for outdoor recreation. The stadium is designed to reduce in capacity to 35,000 seats by removing relocatable seating stands from the north and south end of the upper tier. These seating tiers are designed in lightweight aluminum and composite seating treads and will be relocated to provide a 10,000-seat beach football stadium for Natal. The associated toilet and food and beverage outlets are modular and self-contained, and as such can be relocated with this seating component.

The stadium sits on a raised podium that houses the facilities services beneath, allowing the park to flow around the entertainment shell. The stadium's main entrances are accessed through this podium - a public space that can be used both on game days or as a public park on non-game days.
