The Japan Art Association Zaha Hadid receives Praemium Imperiale
The renowned architect Zaha Hadid has been announced winner of the prestigous Praemium Imperiale Award in the category of Architecture. The international award is distributed by the Japan Art Association in five categories.	Zaha Hadid. Image: www.praemiumimperiale.org
The Praemium Imperiale awards artists for their achievements, for the impact they have had internationally on the arts, and for their role in enriching the global community. Each recipient receives 15 million yen (c. $158,000), and a diploma and medal presented by honorary patron of the Japan Art Association Prince Hitachi in an awards ceremony in Tokyo. The awards ceremony will be held in Tokyo on 22 October 2009.

RIBA - Royal Institute of British Architects I. M. Pei to receive Royal Gold Medal
Ieoh Ming Pei	The Chinese-born American architect I. M. Pei, who is best known in Europe for his transformation of the Louvre in Paris, has been named in October as the recipient of one of the world’s most prestigious architecture prizes, the Royal Gold Medal. I. M. Pei is one of the most prolific architects of all time having completed over 170 projects and more than 50 masterplans. At the age of 92, he remains actively engaged in architecture. His work easily spans the divide between commercial and cultural architecture, and he is equally respected and sought after by clients in all fields.
