Glasgow Riverside Museum of Transport
|
|
The Riverside Museum is derived from its context. Located where the Kelvin joins the Clyde, the museum’s design flows from the city to the river; symbolizing a dynamic relationship where the museum is the voice of both, connecting the city to the river and also the transition from one to the other. The smooth and fluent design of the facade challenged planners and craftsmen. Roof and facade outlines are enveloped with titanium-zinc which emphases the design and reminds of the gleaming slide of the Clyde.

Zaha Hadid says: “The design, combining geometric complexity with structural ingenuity and material authenticity, continues Glasgow’s rich engineering traditions and will be a part of the city’s future as a centre of innovation."

Abu Dhabi , UAE - The variability of glass creates atmosphere
„The Souk” in Central Market

In Abu Dhabi, the London architects Foster + Partners have built the Central Market, a complex of shops, offices, hotels and
apartments. The key feature of the 500,000 m² complex is a shopping mall based on
a typical
traditional Arab
market. Large ornamental windows made of coloured glass create a special atmosphere
in the Souk. This insulating glass was developed according to the design specifications of the architects. The façade components, which measure 7 metres tall and 2.8 metres wide,
consist of bulk-dyed glass in various shades of blue and yellow. Their shape is striking: the panes are incorporated into a steel frame, which forms a geometrical pattern of stars and rectangles. |
| Yellow and blue stars shine on walls and floors, and call to mind the
special qualities of Arab markets with their vivid colours,
patterned fabrics and clothing as well as the sunlight, which illuminates
the floor between the merchants‘ stalls. |

Not only for its facade but also a design that "literally makes kids run to school"
RIBA Stirling Prize for Evelyn Grace Academy |
|
The Evelyn Grace Academy, a cutting-edge secondary school in Brixton, south London by Zaha Hadid Architects has won the prestigious £20,000 RIBA Stirling Prize 2011 for the best new European building built or designed in the United Kingdom. A highly stylized zig-zag of steel and glass, the Evelyn Grace Academy is squeezed onto the tightest of urban sites.
Thus the architects were strongly encouraged by the client to
'think outside the box'.

They succeeded, for instance by cleverly inserting a 100m running track into the heart of the site taking pupils right up to the front door.

fensterbau/frontale India 2012 |
|
The International Exhibition & Conference on Window, Door and Facade Industry moves to the south of India for its second edition: it takes place in Bangalore from 23-25 February 2012.
|
 |
Parallel to the products on display, the internationally renowned German institute ift Rosenheim together with the Indian experts from IFF (International Fenestration Forum) will present three days of lectures under the heading of "Envelopes for Green Buildings". The use of the right building envelope technology can offer decisive advantages in green buildings, especially in conjunction with the air conditioning technology shown at the parallel ACREX INDIA. Architects, planners and building experts thus have the opportunity to obtain information about integrated concepts at both exhibitions.
