Hopkins Architects gain planning consent
New sustainable headquarters for WWF-UK |
|
WWF-UK has moved a step closer to realising its ambition for a new sustainable headquarters in Woking, UK. The design proposal of Hopkins Architects has gained planning consent for the environmentally intelligent building, a redevelopment of a former car park site. The WWF-UK headquarters will bear the name Living Planet Centre. |

The environmentally intelligent building with its eye catching timber arched roof will provide a new purpose-built headquarters for WWF-UK. For the first time, the organisation will be able to showcase its global work through the building itself – with its state-of-the-art sustainable building techniques – and a specially designed area to create the ‘WWF Experience’. This new flexible public area will enable visitors to explore and understand WWF’s environmental work. |

Construction has recommenced on what might become one of the most iconic buildings in London’s Square Mile. The Leadenhall Building was set to be completed in 2011 before plans were put on ice because the recession led to a decline in demand of office space. In late December 2010 British Land and Oxford Properties announced their joint venture partnership to complete the 610,000 sq ft development. Now, photos revealed show the scheme’s contractors back on site and pressing ahead with piling works.

Located at 122 Leadenhall, the tapering 47 storey, 736 ft (224m) tower will provide spectacular views over the British capital. The building was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners and is due for practical completion in mid 2014.

|

Tracing Lord Foster’s career, from his childhood in Manchester to the foundation of his global practice, the documentary looks at his architecture, why it matters and how difficult it is to do well. The film uses cinematography to capture the spectacular scale of Foster's projects on the big screen for the first time.
