David Chipperfield to receive Royal Gold Medal |
|
The British architect Sir David
Chipperfiel has been named as the recipient of the Royal Gold Medal, one of the world’s most prestigious architecture prizes. The Royal Institute of British Architects distributes the honour
to an architect in recognition of his or her lifetime’s work. |

Chipperfield’s practice has won over 50 national and international competitions and awards, including the RIBA Stirling Prize 2007 for the Museum of Modern Literature, Marbach a. N. in Germany. His practice’s Neues Museum project in Berlin, in partnership with Julian Harrap, was shortlisted for the 2010 RIBA Stirling Prize.
His renovation of the museum also received the RIBA 2010 Crown Estate Conservation Award. |

MAXXI Museum in Rome by Zaha Hadid wins the RIBA Stirling Prize 2010 |

MAXXI, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts in Rome by Zaha Hadid Architects, has won the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize 2010, in association with The Architects Journal and Benchmark. The jury described the building as 'a mature piece of architecture, the distillation of years of experimentation, only a fraction of which ever got built. It is the quintessence of Zaha’s constant attempt to create a landscape, a series of cavernous spaces drawn with a free, roving line.'

Snøhetta selected for expanding the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art |

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) has selected Snøhetta architects to be its partner in developing an expansion that enhances the museum's role in the city.

The decision follows a comprehensive international search and two-year planning process to address the enormous growth of SFMOMA's collections and of audience. Initial design concepts for the project - Snøhetta's first building on the West Coast of the USA - will be unveiled in spring 2011.
