Edition: 2010 FIFA Football World Cup
Dear reader, |
| Only a short time is left until 32 football teams will compete in the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. The World Cup tournament - the most widely-viewed international sporting event - is hosted in 2010 by South Africa and scheduled to take place from 11 June to 11 July 2010.
|
|
What would the World Cup be without its football stadiums? These grandiose venues are at the center of attention of millions of people watching the games on site or on TV throughout the world. South Africa has built five new stadiums, and five of the existing venues have been upgraded during the last few years. These venues with their highly intriguing architecture fascinate football fans and architecture enthusiasts likewise, and represent places of international solidarity and community.
The improvement of the local infrastructure and the urban areas as part of the preparations for the World Cup 2010 are hopefully also a chance for furthering solidarity within South Africa.
