architects24.com presents the project:

Michael-Schuhmacher-World-Champion-Tower, Abu Dhabi
Inspired by the geometrical order of a snowflake and the aerodynamics of a Formula 1 racing car, the tower encapsulates speed, fluid dynamics, future technology and natural patterns of organisation. Rather than purely mimicking shapes in nature for their elegance and unpredictability, the architects learned from nature's own geometrical orders creating highly efficient structures and intriguing spaces.

The Tower Ground Breaking was at the beginning of 2009, with a completion date set around June 2011.
The facade's continuous surface enables curvature with a lot of repetition and the potential for standardisation in the building process. State-of-the-art engineering and innovative materials will be used to achieve a fully sustainable performance", explains Chris Bosse, director of LAVA Asia Pacific.

Bourse to be energy saving model

New Saudi Stock Exchange
Major energy saving technologies will be incorporated into the design of the new headquarters of the Saudi Stock Exchange named Tadawul. The development valued in total at over SAR 1 billion, will be designed by top Japanese architect and world leader in sustainable design, Nikken Sekkei. The building’s features will showcase amongst others a “sunlight scooper” introducing natural sunlight, photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption and mirror ducts introducing natural light to basement levels and deep inside the building.
“Our sustainable design was chosen because it balances construction value, sustainability and iconic design. In our design we strived to reflect the identity of Tadawul and incorporate several major energy saving technologies, complying with the latest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards (LEED), the green building rating system, developed by US Green Building Council (USGBC),” said Mitsuo Nakamura.

As urban lighting becomes an increasingly essential component of town planning, and a major element of a city’s identity, Philips and LUCI invite cities all over the world to celebrate their enhancement of urban living. The awards are presided over by an international and independent six-person jury comprised of leading lighting architects, lighting designers and municipal lighting managers.
