www.thebig5exhibition.com Recent research has revealed that The Big 5 was responsible for multi-million dollars worth of business, reinforcing the fact that it is the leading event for the building and construction industry in the Middle East. This year’s event will once again provide a forum for significant business to take place, in addition to offering unparalleled opportunities for the industry to learn from international experts about best practice, new developments and the shape of the industry in the future. The Big 5 has firmly established itself as a place where the construction industry comes to do business - the Metro, Palm Jumeirah and the Burj Al Arab, for example, were all specked out at the show. However, there has never before been an estimate of the value of business involved, and The Big 5 therefore commissioned Vivid Interface, a full service agency specialising in event market research, to undertake this research. The research showed that 90 percent of visitors to The Big 5 had purchasing responsibility, and 81 percent of visitors were likely to do business with an exhibitor. Average exhibitor sales to The Big 5 2009 visitors were estimated at in excess of US$700,000 at the show, and over US$1.1 million afterwards. In addition, average exhibitor sales to other exhibitors were over US$650,000 at show and around a further US$755,000 after the show. Set to take place from 22-25 November at the Dubai World Trade Centre, The Big 5 2010 aims to capitalise on the massive opportunities still available in the construction industry in the Middle East, by bringing together exhibitors and visitors from across the world. Having recently become the first construction exhibition in the UAE to be BPA audited, The Big 5 is the one show that is able to provide transparent and accurate visitor numbers, so that exhibitors can clearly see the regional and international reach the event has secured to date. Doing business at the event is only a part of the reason why companies attend, however. The Big 5 also provides a vital place of learning for the industry – and this year will offer a high profile conference programme bringing together leading players from the international construction business, in addition to some brand new concepts, such as training courses from some of the industry’s most influential organisations, a CEO Leaders Forum, supplier seminars and country specific education sessions. Already a recipient of the Green Award at the recent Middle East Event Awards, The Big 5 is leading by example and will continue its commitment to going Carbon Neutral this year. Working closely with emissions reductions firm, EcoVentures, exhibitors and visitors will be provided with information and practical examples of how they can reduce environmentally damaging activities around the show and in their general business. This will be supported with an educational Green Stand, in addition to the Gaia Awards, which honour companies who reduce the environmental impact of the construction sector, providing a showcase for the winning entries. Simon Mellor, vice president of construction at dmg :: events, said, “Our research has validated what we have always known, that multi-million dollar deals are done as a direct result of attending The Big 5. Our extensive experience and feedback from attendees has allowed us to refine the show and it now without doubt provides a winning combination of a place to do business in addition to a forum for learning about the industry from senior global executives. We are also leading by example, and are working to educate all participants on sustainability, which is vital for the industry’s future success. The show features, conference programme, seminars, and the fabulous networking opportunities the event provides, really do mean that it is something not to be missed by anyone working in the construction industry today.” Sectors at the Big 5 exhibition include:
