Global show case for innovations and trends in construction
Date: 2-7 November 2009
Location: Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, France
Despite a difficult economic situation, the French construction market is
holding up better than in other countries. Numerous sectors are benefiting from
the renovation market, which is maintaining 2008 levels, and are looking for a
return to growth as the recovery plan and in particular the proposals of the
environment initiative (the Grenelle de l’Environnement) begin to have an impact.
Drawing on a year of commitments and work by professionals to create the
building of tomorrow within the framework of these recommendations, the 27th
BATIMAT should be every bit as exciting as the show was in 2007.
As an outstanding forum for meetings and discussions that is eagerly
anticipated by all those involved in the world of construction, BATIMAT 2009 is
an opportunity to discover new technical solutions from around the world that
will be specified in the sustainable construction and renovation projects of
tomorrow.
As a multi-specialist exhibition, it will once again be the world’s largest
show case for innovations and trends in construction and will be organized as 7
spaces: Structure, Joinery & Fenestration, Finishing & Decoration / Zoom,
Equipment and Tools, Sustainable Building Management, IT, Services.
With a reduction in area that has been kept to just 15%, the 27th BATIMAT is
focusing on the sustainable renovation of buildings and energy efficiency, and
will be very much in the tradition of past shows. Visitors will again be able to
discover a varied range of products, even if certain countries, such as Spain,
which have been severely affected by the economic crisis, will have a reduced
presence this year.
Buildings demonstrating tomorrow’s solutions
The Be-GREEN houses, a high profile initiative at the entrance to the
show
Following on from the success of 'Construisons demain' at the 2007 show, the
organizers of BATIMAT in partnership with the magazines EcologiK and
Architectures A Vivre have decided to repeat the experiment with a new project:
the Be-GREEN houses. These are two wooden town houses designed to have a minimal ecological footprint and a neutral energy balance. They will be built and installed opposite the main entrance and Hall 5 of the Porte de Versailles
Exhibition Centre.
Differing in size (90 and 140 m2) and sharing a common space on one level (laundry, bike shed, garage...), these two semi-detached houses have been designed to be able to accommodate somebody with reduced mobility. One will have a positive
energy budget, whilst the other will be passive, i.e. it will have an energy
budget close to zero. The houses will adopt architectural techniques based on
bioclimatic principles in order to capture solar energy in the winter and to provide protection during the hot season. Referred to as ‘intelligent’, the Be-GREEN houses will be fitted with control panels and other systems to allow consumption to be optimized and comfort improved.

The Sustainable Development Demonstration House
The Sustainable Development Demonstration House, a travelling low consumption house
Conceived in response to an idea of Michel Chevalet, the Sustainable Development Demonstration House is an 80 m2 modular, bioclimatic house that complies with the requirements of the new 2012 standards for new builds and which is designed to cut our energy consumption by 20%. After an initial tour of France, this travelling house will be installed opposite Hall 1 of BATIMAT 2009 to provide a demonstration of low consumption (i.e. 50 kW/hour/m2/year) architectural,
technical and environmental solutions. The consumption goals defined for heating
and domestic hot water in this house have been achieved through a combination of
different techniques: enhanced insulation, green roof, a double flow ventilation
system, low emission double glazing, a solar condenser boiler and a façade
covered by photovoltaic panels producing 1.5 kW of electricity.
International Conference of Architects:
the big names of architecture at
BATIMAT
Building on the great success it enjoyed at the last show, the organizers of
BATIMAT have decided to organize another international conference of architects on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th November 2009 (Hall 7 – Sirius room). The Conference will focus on 'Architecture & Sustainable Development'. Read more at:

Visit the Quality & Susatinable Development Forum
Quality & Sustainable Development Forum: providing an overview of quality and
sustainable development in construction
Jointly organized by BATIMAT and the Agence Qualité Construction (Construction
Quality Agency) in partnership with the magazine Planète Bâtiment, the Quality
and Sustainable Development Forum will offer visitors some thirty lectures on
the current situation regarding quality and sustainable development in
construction (Hall 7.2). The programme will cover energy efficiency, sustainable
renovation, renewables, accessibility, safety and security or the management of
site waste, rainwater recovery, design, etc.
Accessibility for All Space
Organized by the FNSAI, in association with UNTEC and the UNSFA, under the
patronage of the Ministry of Labour, Social Relations, the Family, Social
Inclusion and Urban Living and the inter-ministerial team for handicapped
persons, the aim of this 150 m2 space is to raise the awareness of professionals
regarding accessibility and to offer responses to practical and regulatory
questions, to present outstanding implementations and to reveal innovative
solutions in housing, building, fittings and town planning (Hall 7.2).
A trail will raise visitor awareness of various types of handicap and themed
spaces (exterior fittings, electrical products/home automation/drives, hygiene
and well being, design for all and interior fittings, communication/telecommunications
and technologies) will present outstanding implementations and industrial
innovations.
The Innovation Awards and the Design Trophies
These two events are eagerly anticipated by the exhibitors, the visitors and the
press, as BATIMAT makes clear just why it is seen as a place where innovations
and trends are revealed.
The Innovation Awards
The objective of the Innovation Awards is to provide recognition for technical
innovations for the construction market in the following categories: Structure,
Joinery & Fenestration, Finishing & Decoration / Zoom, Equipment and Tools, IT,
Sustainable Building Management. The jury of experts, developers, specifiers,
contractors, craftsmen and technical organizations will choose the overall Gold,
Silver and Bronze Batimat winners across all categories, as well as the three
medal winners in each category.
The Design Trophies
The Design Trophies are for manufacturers who have launched new products created
in partnership with in-house or external designers. A jury of journalists,
design agencies, architects and technical organizations will award Gold, Silver
and Bronze Trophies in each category (Structure, Joinery, Blinds/Fenestration
and Automatic Mechanisms, Ironmongery and Accessories, Floor, Wall and Ceiling
Coverings, Fireplaces and Inserts, Interior Fittings, Tools and Machine Tools).

Batimat 2007
For the first time, an Innovation Space of around 100 m2 will house all the
shortlisted products for the Innovation Awards and the Design Trophies. This
space is located at the heart of the show in Hall 7.1, and will feature a poster
presentation of the 70 shortlisted products at BATIMAT 2009, providing a
detailed descriptive sheet for each and the relevant stand number.
As at every Batimat, the results of the two competitions will be announced at a
ceremony, which will be staged on Monday 2nd November in the presence of
manufacturers and the French and international press.
Russia, country of the year
In order to promote the Russian construction market and strengthen its links
with France, BATIMAT will be working in partnership with the Russian Embassy in
France and the Russian Union of Architects to organize numerous conferences.
Over the six days of the show, themes such as ‘The construction market in Russia’,
‘The architectural concepts of Russian towns’ will encourage discussions between
manufacturers and decision makers in charge of various projects. There will also
be a presentation of the major construction projects underway in the city of
Sotchi in southern Russia, which will host the Winter Olympics in 2014: creation
of the coastal centre to the south of the airport (Olympic village, ice rinks,
stadium) and the mountain centre in the valley of Krasnaya Polyana (mountain
Olympic village, alpine ski pistes, ski jumps...), the building of the hotel and
transport infrastructure, as well as the sports facilities.
North Africa: major events
In 2009, a series of major events at the show will focus on the countries of
North Africa. The programme will include conferences on the construction market
and its developments, on the integration of sustainable development and its
applications into current and future projects, as well as major projects being
carried out in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia by well-known architects from these
countries.
