It was erected as the Prototype for the “german pavillon” for the Expo-Montreal in 1967. With this building the keypoints for the construction were tested, optimized and reconfigured. Together with Fritz Leonhardt, Frei Otto created this icon of modern architecture © ILEK, Stuttgart Fritz Leonhardt was one of the most important engineers of the 20th century. He is famous not only for his pioneering work on bridges, but also for his high-rise structures such as the Stuttgart television tower (the world’s first TV tower built from reinforced concrete – and the prototype for many other towers of this style). Leonhardt was honorary member of many international organisations and recipient of numerous awards and distinctions like the Freyssinet-Medal from the Féderation Internationale de la Précontrainte, honorary doctor of the Purdue Universität, the goldmedal from the Institution of Structural Engineers and many more. In commemoration of the centenary of his birth in July 2009, the University of Stuttgart will host an international conference on recent developments in Architecture and Structural Engineering. The conference is organised under the aegis of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design. Contributors Downloads: ![]() Further Information: |
