Consense 2009

Congress and Trade Fair for Sustainable Building in Stuttgart

Date: 23-24 June 2009
Venue: Trade Fair Centre Stuttgart, Germany

Sustainable building is a hot topic at the moment. This is underlined by the interest in Consense – the International Congress and Trade Fair for Sustainable Building – to be held on 23 and 24 June 2009 in Stuttgart. A large number of visitors, congress participants and exhibitors have already registered their attendance. This unique industry gathering will be staged at Messe Stuttgart (the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre adjacent to Stuttgart Airport) and hosted by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and Messe Stuttgart itself.

Operating under the slogan 'Generating added value – sustainability in the building and property industries', participants are looking forward to an interesting and informative event. During the plenary session, the spotlight will be on a wide range of topics: What are the benefits of sustainable building for owners and investors? What advantages do users of sustainable buildings enjoy? And how will sustainable building become a driving force for innovation among building material manufacturers? Consense will provide the answers to all these questions. A wide range of subjects will be addressed, from 'sustainable urban development' to the internationalisation of Germany's 'seal of quality'.

Anyone who wants to learn more about the German seal of quality for sustainable building will be in the right place in Stuttgart this June. Participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the DGNB in a series of workshops. This will include information on training auditors, and on the new working groups, which have now begun work certifying further types of building and urban areas – including residential and existing buildings, commercial and industrial properties and the creation of new urban areas. Participants in these workshops will have the opportunity to discuss and develop their knowledge of individual specialist areas in an intensive dialogue with the experts.

For the first time, Consense is offering participants the opportunity to appraise sustainably built and certified constructions on location. Excursions will be available to individual buildings at the cutting edge of sustainability – the first to be awarded the German seal of quality for sustainable building.

The high-quality trade fair will take place at the same time as the international congress. A number of renowned companies have already confirmed their attendance, including Bilfinger Berger, BASF and Schüco. The focus will be on top-class services and products, as sustainable building continues to spur on many innovations.

"We believe that sustainability will shape the future of the construction industry," says Holger Schirmeier, who is employed by Xella Aircrete Systems GmbH in its sales and marketing division for business and industrial construction projects. "Consense offers an emerging platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience. This is where networks of the kind promoted by sustainable building are created!" Already on its second outing to Consense, Xella is exhibiting products, projects and developments in the area of fire safety as well as sustainable and climate-proof building.

"We will demonstrate that cost-effectiveness and quality can go hand in hand," says Andreas Gradinger, director of 'Planning and Property Management' at CAPAROL. "We see this as a healthy and logical development". One of the event's great draws is that it caters to the whole spectrum of the construction, residential and property industries – from investors and planners to project developers. Gradinger relishes the opportunity that Consense offers to meet like-minded people who, like CAPAROL, are ready to break new ground – up to and including a shake-up of their view of the entire life cycle.

"Throughout Consense, the DGNB will be informing people about the latest developments in the area of green building both domestically and internationally," says Dr Michael Bauer, Managing Director of Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies. "There will be a presentation of new requirements governing green building certification for renovated buildings, as well as all the latest news on portfolio certification, the retail sector, residential areas, schools and urban development. As green building experts and DGNB certifiers, we expect a lively exchange of information at Consense.

This year there will also be a guided tour of some DGNB pilot projects, including the Drees & Sommer office building at 11 Obere Waldplätze (OWP). Here participants will be introduced to the integrated expertise of Drees & Sommer in a 'real-life setting'."

Consense 2009 once again offers a highly attractive forum for developing existing contacts and creating new networks. It is well on its way to establishing itself as the international industry gathering in the field of sustainability.
