FSB Cologne 2009

Date: October 28-30, 2009
Venue: Koelnmesse, Halls 3 and 11, Cologne, Germany

Amenity areas, sports and pool facilities - three theme sectors, one successful platform. The organizers are working at full speed on the next extension phase of FSB Cologne, which will be held from 28th to 30th October 2009 in Halls 3 and 11 at Koelnmesse. According to Koelnmesse Executive Vice-President, Oliver P. Kuhrt, it will be presenting the sport and leisure worlds of the future: "In all three theme sectors there are now already indications of visionary concepts which we wish to present to our visitors. In addition to the product and concept innovations, the IAKS Congress and Award presentation will once again set international standards in 2009!" The Congress, organized by the honorary FSB sponsor, IAKS (International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities - Internationale Vereinigung Sport- und Freizeiteinrichtungen) along with the award of the unique IOC, IPC and IAKS Architecture Prize, are the highlights of the specialist support programme for decision-makers and experts. With next year's Artificial Turf Forum one of the largest theme areas at FSB will be provided with its own communication platform for the first time. In addition, the 3rd Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum will once again ensure the generation of synergies between the trend themes covered by the two other trade fairs in the Cologne trade fair trio of FSB, aquanale (International Trade Fair for Sauna, Pool, Ambience) and SOLARIA (International Trade Fair for Tanning Products and Equipment). A spectacular range of sport extending from basketball to ice hockey right up to football will round off the FSB 2009 experience.

In cooperation with STADT und RAUM Messe und Medien GmbH, FSB 2009 is showing the adventure, recreation and play areas for the young and old. The amenity areas for leisure activity organization are the exciting tasks of the future, which the architects and planners will be facing up to in the coming years. At FSB decision-makers from local authorities, municipalities and private sector come together with innovative companies, whose core business is providing the highest quality play and amenity areas. They include exhibitors from the segments of playground equipment and appliances, urban design, amenity area design, urban furnishings, park furnishings and fixtures, public path and spaces design. Once again in 2009 the outstanding projects within the amenity areas theme sector will be awarded the German Play Area Prize ("Deutscher Spielraum-Preis"). The media's attention is already guaranteed.

Top-ranking programme at the 21st IAKS Congress
The sport facilities theme area will be focusing on the sport worlds of the future, which will also be the theme covered by the 21st IAKS Congress. The experts' get-together is one of the highlights at FSB, which thanks to innovative exhibitors, exciting special shows and a top-ranking congress programme, is the leading trend, contact and business forum for the sports facilities, swimming pools, amenity areas and urban design sectors. The IAKS Congress is presenting lectures, seminars and discussions on the planning and modernization as well as construction and management of sports and leisure facilities.

The 2009 theme schedule includes the following key areas:

  • Accessible sports facilities
  • Integration of sports and leisure facilities in urban development
  • Sport and exercise areas for all sections of the population
  • Financing possibilities for sports and leisure facilities
  • Energy-saving technologies
  • The artificial turf future market
  • Brazil 2014: sport infra-structure for the FIFA World Cup Finals

One of the highlights of the Congress is the presentation of the IOC/IAKS Award including the IPC/IAKS special prize in cooperation with the International Olympic and International Paralympic Committee. It is the only architecture prize to be awarded worldwide in recognition of existing sports facilities and disabled-friendly facilities.

FSB is the largest artificial lawn in the world
In 2009, for the first time a separate forum will be devoted to the constantly growing interest in artificial turf and cover aspects such as production technologies, quality requirements, market potential, construction and operating costs. As the world's largest artificial lawn, FSB will next year be offering the sector an even more extensive platform and independent presentation.

In addition to the specialist programme, anyone who visits the Cologne exhibition halls at FSB 2009 will experience one thing in particular: action and events from morning until evening. In the FIBA Village young and old will be trying to find the basket, while the football fans will be chasing the round leather ball on small pitches. On the ice rink it will not be cool at all, ice hockey and skating will ensure that things hot up.

The complete national and international swimming pool landscape
Swimming and leisure oases of the future are characterized by wellness, fitness and lifestyle components. In the pool sector the product and service range must therefore take into account the customers' diverse wishes and requirements. The architects' and operators' need for solutions is all the more diverse in order to realize these modern pools worlds in an attractive and cost-effective approach. At FSB 2009 the designers will come together and find the corresponding product and networking solutions. Futuristic pool oases will also be shown by the student competition organized by the European Waterpark Association (EWA), whose models and projects have already won international acclaim in the past.

FSB and the almost parallel event, aquanale (October 28-31, 2009), will show the complete national and international swimming pool landscape. In this connection, the fair visitors from the public swimming and leisure pools sector will have plenty of opportunities to take a look at the exciting and innovative range of swimming pools, water treatment systems, swimming pool technology and saunas in the adjoining aquanale Halls 10.1 and 4.1.

As the highlight of the specialist support programme at FSB, aquanale and SOLARIA, for the third time the internationally-recognized Cologne Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum is inviting interested parties to an exchange of information, contacts and business. The honorary sponsors of the Forum, the bsw (Bundesverband Schwimmbad und Wellness e.V. - Federal Association of Swimming Pools and Wellness), the IAKS (Internationale Vereinigung Sport- und Freizeiteinrichtungen - International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities) and BSB (Bundesfachverband Saunabau und Dampfbad e. V. - Federal Association for Sauna Construction and Steam Baths) are also preparing an informative and exciting theme spectrum for 2009 created by decision-makers for decision-makers.
