ROOF+TIMBER International

Mission ‘Energy transition’: Trade fair: first port-of-call for roofers and carpenters

Dates: 31 January - 3 February 2012
Veneue: Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre

• New products: national and international key players bank on trade fair
• New highlights in supporting programme: the European Carpentry
Championships, the Façade Forum & the Real estate day’
• New ticketing system: tickets available online now

A new ticketing system for exhibitors and visitors, a façade forum, new opening hours between Tuesday and Friday, and the European carpentry championships – just some of the new features at DACH+HOLZ International 2012. The list of more than 500 firms descending on Stuttgart will make the German city a focal and gathering point for the entire industry. By way of example, the following national and international key players have already signalled their intention to participate: Bauder, Creaton, Dörken, DuPont, Eternit, Fermacell, Haas, Hundegger, Icopal, Knauf, Mafell, Monier Braas, Pavatex, Rheinzink, Rockwool, Roto, Velux and Wolfin. Alongside these DACH+HOLZ stalwarts, it is worth mentioning that a number of firms will be returning to DACH+HOLZ International after a break, or will be in attendance for the very first time, namely, SCM Group SpA, Rotho-Blaas, Egger, Schwenk Dämmtechnik, Saint-Gobain Isover and Trumpf. However, all of the firms on their way to the five trade fair halls will certainly have one thing in common: their expertise represents a comprehensive range of machinery, materials and tools in the field of roofing and timber construction.

Dieter Dohr, CEO and President of GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH (trade fair organiser for skilled trades and small to medium-sized enterprises) states: “Ultimately, the demands placed on roofers and carpenters grow as the requirements for energy efficiency grow. In addition to technical expertise, customers on-site also expect the latest and most cost-effective technical solution when it comes to putting this energy transition into practice. For Karl-Heinz Schneider, President of the Zentralverband des Deutschen Dachdeckerhandwerks (ZVDH) [Central Association of the German Roofing Trade], DACH+HOLZ International represents a comprehensive and unique trade fair programme for the specialist tradesman: “Forward-looking technologies for sustainable energy management in buildings, such as solar technology and modern insulation technology, are particular focal points. At DACH+HOLZ International, the specialist audience can enter into dialogue with experts, service providers and suppliers and gain important impetus for their own businesses. The trends and solutions meet the needs of customers and can be incorporated into the day-to-day business to make it more profitable.

DACH+HOLZ International offers a further specialist programme of events as part of what is on offer at the trade fair, with a discussion between trade and housing societies, property developers and property management companies set to take place on the Wednesday of the trade fair (1 February 2012). On the first ‘Real estate day’, current topics such as renovation and portfolio management will be discussed alongside the debate between key players in the construction industry and trade representatives.

On the next day of the trade fair (2 February 2012), however, the focus will be on the architects and planners. The Architects’ forum is set to feature lively and thought-provoking presentations by well-known architects, who will talk about timber construction amongst other things. After these talks, audience members will get the chance to take part in an exclusive and personalised tour of the trade fair.

A new feature of the trade fair is the Façade forum located in Hall 7, which is set to be the first port-of-call for all questions that need answering on the topic of building envelopes. Presentations on topics such as insulation or curtain-wall façades with air-spaces will take place across the four-day programme, giving the specialist audience ample opportunity to acquire information. However, it should be noted here that the focus will not be on ‘dry’ theory, but rather on practical application. It is for this reason that the forum will be run alongside a trade exhibition featuring model façades.

The European carpentry championships are another highlight of the programme, and these are expected to provide a good deal of entertainment to visitors, exhibitors and the media alike. This competition will be returning to Germany after 16 years of being held in other parts of Europe. Over the course of three days (31 January to 2 February 2012), a search will take place in the atrium of the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre to find Europe’s best carpenter, with the results and winner being announced on the Friday.

“The trade fair is the industry highlight of 2012 and its reach goes far beyond Germany's borders”, explains Ullrich Huth, President of Holzbau Deutschland – [Association of German Master Carpenters (BDZ), part of the Central Association of German Building Trades (ZDB)]. It should therefore come as no surprise that he is very pleased that Stuttgart had their bid for the European Championships accepted: “At least eight nations will line up to determine the best carpentry nation and best carpenter in Europe. Sticking to the traditional format, there will be events for both teams and individuals. Seeing the next generation hard-at-work during the contest will no doubt prove to be quite an experience for any veteran master carpenters and entrepreneurs from the field of timber construction.

Online Ticketing is new for 2012. Roofers, carpenters, plumbers, architects and planners have the option of purchasing tickets from the comfort of their own homes. Tickets will go on sale at the end of September at www.dach-holz.de/en . To avail of these, simply register, place the number of tickets you require in the shopping basket, then remember to bring your printed-out tickets with you to the trade fair. Obtaining your tickets this way will mean you avoid queuing for admission. The new ticket portal also provides exhibitors with a convenient way of inviting their clients to the trade fair. The firms send a ticket coupon to their clients, which can be exchanged online in advance for an entrance ticket. This finally puts an end to the long-winded process of exchanging coupons at the till and will save you precious minutes. This system also enables the exhibitor to see which coupons sent online have already been redeemed by their clients – an option which is available at all times. This information helps firms to get in contact with specific clients in advance to arrange meetings with them.
