Venue: Congress-Centrum, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
Closing date for registration: 19 November 2010
The International Wood Construction Conference (IHF-Garmisch 2010) provides architects, engineers and builders with an opportunity to report on experiences, processes and goals related to wood structures and construction. At the same time the
conference provides an opportunity for architects, building officials, builders
and craftspeople, practicians and educators to learn about the latest
developments and to exchange experiences.
On 1 December 2010, the Forum will be launched with an introduction to the conference at an Opening Session organized by the German Federal Society for Prefabricated Housing and the Austrian Prefabricated Housing Association focusing on the topic "Building for municipal and institutional clients". After the opening there will be the usual expert warm-up in the form of four pre-conference seminars:
- Architecture Forum (TU Munich / Lignatur) on “Timber architecture today”
- Prefabricated Housing Forum (BDF / Stora Enso Timber DE) on “Sustainablity - the consumer's view”
- Wooden House Construction Forum (European Federation of Timber Construction) on “Timber construction in Europe - a look beyond the borders”
- Connector Technology Forum (TU Graz / Vinzenz Harrer / Schmid Schrauben) on "Screwed and glued connections in timber construction"

As the use of wood as a construction material can make a significant
contribution to sustainability and energy efficiency, and ultimately to
stabilisation of the climate system, the programme of the International Wood
Construction Forum is highly meaningful in this respect, too.
The international team of organizers under the leadership of the Bern
University of Applied Sciences (Department of Architecture, Wood and Civil
Engineering), Biel, and Rosenheim University has succeeded in attracting
speakers of national and international standing to IHF 2010, and attendees can look forward to a wideranging and in-depth update of their knowledge from presentations grouped around the following topics:
- Vision 2020 – the outlook for wood in the field of construction
- Instruments for sustainable construction
- Cross-laminated timber: market – developments – experience
- Engineered wood construction: presentation of outstanding structures from
around the world
- Climate change and its impacts on tomorrow’s construction industry
- Host countries: Benelux
- Bridges and towers: presentations of projects
- Sustainability: certification systems, perspectives, investors
- Epilogue: Going up with wood
The International Wood Construction Forum (IHF) in Garmisch- Partenkirchen will again be an ideal setting for public tributes for outstanding services to the wood construction industry. This year’s awards will go to KommR Alfred Rubner, Brixen, and Professor Dr. Arno Fruehwald, University of Hamburg.
In addition to learning from the various speakers, attendees will be able to gather information on the latest developments and innovations in timber (house) construction in the parallel trade show, where the sponsors and other companies will be presenting their products.
