China Green Building Forum 2010

Greentech Innovation & Energy Efficiency

Date: 21-22 October 2010
Location: Shanghai, China

China’s fast economic growth and urbanization progress has put unprecedented pressure on energy resources. The two biggest problems for China right now are new energy developments as well as energy savings and emissions reduction. The Development and Reform Commission have set the first goal of the 12th Five-Year Plan is to increase the usage of non-fossil fuels to 12%-13% of the total primary energy consumption. Improving energy efficiency of buildings has been considered as a crucial factor for China to realise its national energy strategy. The government has set ambitious energy targets to cut building energy use in all cities by 50% by 2010 and 65% by 2020; and plans to achieve the goal by strictly enforcing energy saving standards on new construction and by retrofitting existing public buildings.

China has the world's highest rate of construction activity, accounting for almost half of all construction globally. Also, with the government's commitment to environmental sustainability and green building in major urban areas, China's green building market is expected to be worth US$200 billion by 2020, estimates the World Bank. However the development of China green building faces a range of challenges, including the innovation of building energy efficiency technology, insufficient green material supply, high cost, lack of expertise in integrated green building design, deficient legislations and standard system. To solve those striking issues and help spur the growth of China green buildings, the China Green Building Forum 2010 will gather 200+ top governmental officials, professionals and senior executive officers from world’s leading organizations and companies to draw a blueprint for the development of China green building.
