The Awards will recognise and reward excellence in architecture and design
for the emerging regions of the Gulf States, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the
Indian subcontinent, Australasia (excluding Japan, New Zealand & Australia) and
Latin America. Winners will be rewarded at a superb Gala Dinner to be held on
the first night of Cityscape, Monday, 6th October 2008 at Grand Hyatt Dubai.
The Cityscape Architectural Awards will attract the world's leading
architects from the emerging world, as well as developers, consultants,
governmental authorities, investors and senior professionals involved in the
real estate industry.
The International Judging Panel
A comprehensive nomination and judging process will operate for the Awards. Once
nominations have been received, a panel of internationally acclaimed judges will
evaluate each entry. The judging panel's unsurpassed knowledge and experience
will ensure every nomination is evaluated to the highest standards possible. The
independence of both the jury will ensure transparency in the judging process,
ensuring that winners will be worthy recipients of these highly coveted Awards.
The Categories
Entries will be separated into Buildings (those already complete) and Projects (those
incomplete or still on the drawing board), and will be judged on:
- Contribution to world architectural culture
- Invention and imagination
- Respect for people, the planet and context
- Environmental awareness
- Appropriateness
The Cityscape Architectural Awards are divided into the following categories:
- Commercial/Mixed-Use
- Community (including religious and public buildings)
- Leisure
- Residential
- Tourism, Travel and Transport
Special Awards
There will also be Special Awards decided by the judges, the winners of which
will be picked from entries in the above categories. Special Awards will be
given in the following categories:
- The Environmental Award - for the one completed scheme that delivers
best on environmental issues
- The Islamic Architecture Award - for the project that shows particular
empathy and understanding for Islamic culture and context
- The Master Planning Award - for the scheme the judges feel is the best
master planned community
These Special Awards categories cannot be entered directly. The shortlists
will comprise of all suitable schemes submitted in all other categories.
Submission requirements
An entry form for the competition and a booking form for the awards ceremony can
be found at
www.cityscape.ae/awards For each project entered, candidates must submit:
- Two A2 display boards with the architects name and the project name
- A CD containing 300 dpi images of the scheme in PDF, jpeg or tif format
- A completed entry form
The entry deadline is 1st September 2008.
