Bridge Design CompetitionApplication Period ends on 3 August 2011, 3pm ![]() The City of Helsinki is organising an international design competition for Kruunusillat (Crown Bridges). Kruunusillat is a traffic connection consisting primarily of bridges, currently being designed between Kruununhaka and Kruunuvuorenranta, in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland. The competition task includes the conceptualisation and investigation at the outline plan level of the Kalasatama - Korkeasaari / Palosaari - Kruunuvuorenranta - traffic connection. The main emphasis of the task is the design of the connection between Kruunuvuorenranta and Palosaari / Korkeasaari, which is situated at an approximately 1.3 km-wide portion of the Kruunuvuorenselkä water area. The main users of Kruunusillat will be trams, cyclists and pedestrians. The traffic connection shall also accommodate service and emergency vehicles. The purpose of the competition is to find in every respect a high-quality solution for an environment extremely demanding from the landscape and cultural-historical perspectives. Kruunusillat shall have a positive effect on Helsinki’s image and shall be a worthy legacy for future generations. The language of the competition is English. Architects, building engineers, structural engineers, landscape architects, geologists and traffic planners thrghout the European Union can apply.
