International Design Award
Registration Deadline: 20 April 2011
Deadline for Submission: 20 May 2011
The award aims at promoting the use of the living plant element inside the
home, with its application to everyday objects. The plant element has in fact
been included in sustainable materials for construction thanks to High Green
Technologies, and its unquestionable and demonstrated qualities make it an
essential instrument to achieve Kyoto protocol goals. Now, the plant element can
find its place even in the design field, where it will contribute to the
spreading of the idea of wellness and sustainability. The subject emphasizes the
core of the question of sustainable architecture: time. Time is the actual
protagonist of the ecology project and, next to it, the care the project
requires. When an object, from the spoon to the city, contains a living plant
element, the care owed to every living being becomes part of the project and
influences related choices, making time an absolutely necessary variable.

The award aims at developing a sharper awareness of the plant element, in relation with the culture of design and Flowers & Plants.
Acceptable projects
The award is organized in two sections:
Section A – Completed projects: objects in production, prototypes
Section B – Non-completed projects
The solutions presented to both sections will have to contain living plant
elements that have been selected to last for all the functional duration of the
object. Things such as maintenance, care, light, substrata, replacements of the
vegetation and anything that can keep the selected plants alive will have to be taken into account.
Recipients
Designers, architects, engineers, agronomists, technical offices, students at
the Faculties of Architecture, Engineering, Agriculture or Schools of Design can apply for the award.
