WAN Awards - Education

Submission deadline: 28 February 2011

About the awards
The WAN AWARDS Education Sector is a major international competition, and the first of the 6 bi-monthly 'Excellence in Design' series by sector for 2011. There are two categories:

1. Completed Projects
2. Unbuilt / Design-Only Projects

Eligibility
For the 'completed' category, if you have designed an educational building, whether a school, college, university or academy that has been completed during the last three full calendar years, (on or after January 1st 2008), you can now enter for the WAN Awards Education Sector 2011.

If you have a design for an educational building that is yet to be built - even if it may never be built - you can now enter your project into the 'Unbuilt' category for the WAN AWARDS Education Sector 2011.

Celebrating Architecture Sustainably
Competitions and awards have always been an intrinsic element of winning new work for architects, but now, under the present economic cloud, it has become ever more important. The value of an award is determined not only by the quality of the jury panel but also by the number and calibre of participants.

Using the exclusive WAN database and contacts around the world, WAN acclaims to be able to pull together an unprecedented fusion of high quality architecture and internationally acclaimed judges drawn from both top architectural practices and experts from each sector.

WAN has driven architectural news into the 21st century and now with these awards, WAN is seeking to break the traditional mould of an annual award with a lavish dinner at the end. Whilst this format can work well at a national level, it is unpractical and unsustainable on a global scale. Taking a fresh approach, the WAN Awards are run on bi-monthly rolling programme by sector, offering a continuous showcase for the very best in international architecture and utilising WAN's global audience to provide maximum exposure for your projects, with the smallest possible carbon footprint.

Judging criteria
The jury will judge entries on a number of factors including originality, innovation, form and special quality, sustainability and context, but the following two areas will carry the most weighting.

  • How your design addressed the key elements of the brief.
  • Specific examples of how your building has enhanced the education process.

Please email submissions and direct any questions or problems regarding entries / registration to james.forryan@wantoday.com
