The European Commission and Europa Nostra have announced 29 winners from 15 countries for their 2010 Awards. The awards honour the greatest achievements in maintaining and preserving Europe's shared cultural heritage.
The architectural partners SANAA in Japan have been chosen as the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureates. The award has come to be known throughout the world as architecture's highest honor. SANAA has designed projects in Japan, the USA, and throughout Europe.
The third-largest mosque in the world is currently under design on the bay of Algiers. It has the highest minaret in the world. The challenging design of its facade combines technical expertise and elements from traditional Arab architecture and ornamentation.
William F. Baker will be awarded with the Gold Medal from the international Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). Baker, structural engineering partner at SOM, has developed the core structural system for the Burj Khalifa, Dubai.
Office for Metropolitan Architecture and Ole Scheeren have announced that Ole Scheeren will be leaving the firm in order to establish his own studio. Scheeren has been working with OMA since 1995 leading several important projects.
