8th Sao Paulo International Architecture Biennial

The Department of Sao Paulo of the Brazil Institute of Architects (IAB.SP) promotes the 8th International Biennial of Architecture of Sao Paulo with the theme Urban Echoes. The biennial will be held from 31 October to 6 December 2009 at the Biannual Pavillion in the Ibirapuera Park in Sao Paulo.

The theme proposed by the Institute focuses on the issue of qualification of degraded areas in urban centers stemming from mega-events and uses the Soccer World Cup of 2014 in Brazil as backdrop to the Biennial. The theme URBAN ECHOES is a direct reference to the proposal of this edition regarding the potential for great transformations in urban and metropolitan centers which receive events of an international standing. The word ECOS (ECHOES in Portuguese) includes the initial letters of Espacialidade (Spatiality) Conectividade (Connectivity) Originalidade (Originality) and Sustentabilidade (Sustainability) - the four axes that guide the concept of these changes, as the general curator, architect Bruno Roberto Padovano explains.

There will be presented a selection of international projects in architecture and urban design that show the potential for great, positive transformation in metropolitan centres and improve the quality of living for their inhabitants.
