About the BMW Guggenheim Lab:
The BMW Guggenheim Lab is a mobile laboratory traveling to nine major cities worldwide over six years. Part urban think tank, part community center and part public gathering space, the Lab addresses issues of contemporary urban life through free programs and public discourse. Its goal is the exploration of new ideas, experimentation, and ultimately the creation of forward-thinking solutions for city life. ANCB is the main collaborator for the BMW Guggenheim Lab project while in Berlin.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab launched in New York from August 3 to October 16, 2011, and will travel to Berlin and Mumbai in 2012, concluding its first two-year cycle with an exhibition presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2013. The theme of the Lab's first cycle is Confronting Comfort - exploring notions of individual and collective comfort and the urgent need for environmental and social responsibility. The BMW Guggenheim Lab website, blog and online communities will explore the themes of the Lab throughout the life of the project.

A four-member BMW Guggenheim Lab team, an international, multidisciplinary group of experts and innovators, is selected for each Lab venue. In collaboration with Guggenheim curators and others, the Berlin Lab team will present 10 weeks of site-specific research and public programs within the Lab including workshops, public discussions, performances and formal and informal gatherings around the Confronting Comfort theme. Intern Position Description:
Interns will work closely with the curators, Berlin Lab team members, ANCB and local programs team in the development of the BMW Guggenheim Lab Berlin’s public programs and presentations. Each intern will work closely with one Lab team member, giving insight into individual approaches to the Confronting Comfort theme and participating closely in the planning for the Lab team member's 2 1/2-week sequence of programs at the Lab. In this planning phase, interns will assist in creating programs for the Lab and a Lab team-based installation designed to generate deep public engagement in Berlin. Tasks include project research, maintaining relationships with local and international collaborators, community outreach, scheduling and logistics.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab Berlin will be open to the public from 24 May to 29 July 2012. Admission to the Lab and all public programs will be free. During the run of the Lab, interns will work closely with the curatorial, programs and operations teams to facilitate the public’s experience and enjoyment of the Lab’s activities. Day-to-day tasks will involve liaising with speakers and collaborators on program execution, assisting with logistics and technical needs, collecting surveys and statistics, responding to visitor queries, organizing information for the website and documenting events at the Lab.

Qualification and Requirements:
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and detail-oriented, with solid research skills. Candidates must have finished at least three semesters of undergraduate studies to be eligible to apply. Candidates enrolled in, or who have completed, a graduate-level program will be preferred. Given the interdisciplinary focus of the BMW Guggenheim Lab project, we invite applicants from various disciplines including Architecture, Urban Studies/Planning, Design, Cultural Management, Media and Communications, Sociology and Sciences (including Ecology and Environmental Studies). Applicants must possess excellent communication and analytical skills, and be fluent in written and spoken English and German. Additional languages commonly spoken in Berlin are a plus.

This is a paid 6-month internship, based in Berlin from February to July 2012, with academic credits if available. The time commitment is a flexible schedule of approximately 10 hours per week. During the 2 ½- week programming sequence on which the intern is working most closely, some additional hours may be necessary.

Please send cover letter, résumé/CV and two references to reply@aedes-network-campus.de.The subject should read “Lab Intern”. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, so you are encouraged to apply early, but no later than 27 January 2012.
