Stops: Urban Intersection Areas in 2023![]() The Turkish Chamber of Architects and its Antalya regional branch announce the results of their biennial international awards programme. Designed to elicit ideas on 'stops' in the city, it also serves as the theme and illustration for the debates held during the international young architects meeting, in Antalya. Stops, determined by a variety of causes and elements, generate places for crossing, for intersection between the city and its inhabitants. Competitors were invited to imagine these places of socialisation, as a strong element in the dynamics of the city of their choice. The 1st prize was awarded to the Turkish architect Gencay Çubuk for a 3D fiction of the future of New York where a system of ‘elastic’ intersections and 'capsules' allows different levels and different types of spaces for 'stops'. The second prize went to Tugba Öztürk (Turkey), for the simplicity and flexibility of the system proposed which can also serve as urban furniture that the inhabitants can transform to fulfill different functions. Two third prizes were awarded ex-aequo: To Pablo Gil and Jaime Bartolomé (Spain) for an idea of a technological solution for zero-energy consumption and an ecological system applicable in different regions of the world; To Ersin Ince, (Turkey) for a successful interpretation of "bus stop", through a positive and responsible approach respectful of the environment. Two honourable mentions were awarded. One to the Spanish team: C. Collado Alonso, J. Cortes de Castro, R. Sancho Ferrer, C. Domecq Domecq. This team also obtained the majority vote of the participants at the young architects meeting in Antalya. The second honorary mention went to Turkish architect Can Ulusoy. The international jury was composed of the following architects: Andrei Kaftanov (Russia), Tomaz Kancler (Slovenia), Okan Kologlu (Turkey), Josef Saller (Austria), Ertug Uçar Aysun (Turkey ).
