France honors Louise Cox

Louise Cox and Frédéric Mitterrand

Frédéric Mitterrand, French Minister for Culture and Communication, presented Louise Cox, UIA immediate past President, with the insignia of Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters. (The present President of UIA is Albert Dubler. He was chosen as president of the International Union of Architects for the 2011-2014 triennial period on 5 October 2011)

On the occasion of this ceremony, held in the Ministry’s salons in Paris, on 21 November 2011, three other architects were also honoured. Frédéric Borel received the insignia of Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters; Brendan MacFarlane and Dominique Jakob those of Officer in the same Order.

Frédéric Mitterrand lauded Louise Cox’s ”exemplary attention to natural and urban contexts,respect of the environment and its transformation” throughout her professional career. The Minister concluded his address in these terms: “Through your energetic involvement and your federative enthusiasm, you offer a major contribution to the new orientation of the architecture of tomorrow where the aesthetic is more than ever interwoven with the principle of responsibility“.

They received this decoration in the presence notably of Albert Dubler, UIA President, Michel Barmaki, UIA Secretary General, Solange d’Herbez de la Tour, President of the International Union of Women Architects and Patrick Coulombel, President of the Emergency Architects Foundation.
